Lumière ("we," "us," "the Service") is a film curation and recommendation web application. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We try to collect as little as possible and to be plain about it.
Information we collect
Account information. When you sign in, we receive your email address, and — if you use Google sign-in — your name and profile image, as provided by Google. We do not receive your Google password.
Your film data. The films you save, love, mark "not for me," add to your watchlist, and the answers you give during taste calibration. This is the data that powers your recommendations.
Email sign-ups. If you join our mailing list, we store your email address for that purpose.
Usage and device data. Basic analytics such as pages viewed, features used, approximate region, browser, and device type. We use this to understand and improve the Service.
Curation logs. We also store an anonymous device identifier and a log of each recommendation request (your selections and the films shown) to improve curation quality. This log is never shared and is not readable from the browser.

To save your library and taste profile across sessions.
To operate, secure, and improve the Service.
To send you account-related messages (for example, password resets) and, if you opted in, occasional updates.
Third-party services we rely on
Running Lumière means sending limited data to trusted providers. Each has its own privacy policy:
Supabase — authentication and database (stores your account and library). Policy
The Movie Database (TMDB) — film metadata, posters, and ratings. This product uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB. Policy
Anthropic (Claude) — generates your recommendations. Your taste signals and prompt text are sent to produce results; they are not used to identify you. Policy
Resend — sends transactional and opt-in email. Policy
Google Analytics — anonymous-aggregate usage measurement. Policy
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not show third-party advertising.
Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and browser storage to keep you signed in and to remember your preferences, and Google Analytics uses cookies to measure usage. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, though some features may stop working if you do.
Data retention and deletion
We keep your account and library data for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at the address below. We will remove it within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example, under the EU's GDPR or California's CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise any of these, contact us and we will respond.
Children
Lumière is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your region), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections and access controls through our providers, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be communicated where appropriate.
